10 months old

You are 10 mos (sniff, sniff), Big Boy! We see more and more of your personality everyday! You, Little Guy, are full of joy and bring us so many smiles and laughs! Here are a few things about you at 10 mos.:

You have mastered being a wiggle worm when we try to change or dress you. Needless to say, we always have to give you a toy to distract you, but we still better be really quick!

You are crawling EVERYWHERE! You have managed to find many, many things you aren't allowed to touch.

You make me laugh when I give you a toy to distract you from something you shouldn't touch, and you grab the toy & take it with you back to that thing you shouldn't touch! Last week, you found the electrical outlet! Thank goodness they are already covered.

I love to watch you play! You can take items in and out of containers; you often put other toys in the ball popper to watch them "pop", too! I laughed really hard as you managed to get your bib off and all of the way in there!

You love to munch on Big Brother's play food. The other day I showed you how the coins go in your piggy bank, and then YOU tried it!

You love to bang your toys on things and will even bang toys together.

You bat at our hands if we try to put something near your face that you don't want. (i.e. a pacifier when you really don't want it)

You still love for us to imitate what sounds you make! It is a game for you. I know you are already beginning to understand how we communicate in conversations with one another.

You are the star in the waiting room at speech therapy! All of the kids gather around you and hand you toys! You smile, "talk", and try to crawl in their lap.

You insist on holding your own bottle!

You shake your head no no, but it doesn't mean "no no", yet! You love to shake your head and then have Jackson imitate you or vice versa. Both of you giggle at this game!

When people say "hi" to you, you always look at Daddy or me to be sure it is ok for you to "talk" to that person! I love the trust that you have in us!

You crack us up when you turn around in your highchair in restaurants to "chat" with the people near us!

You put your arms out for people you want to go to. Mommy always gets the arms! :)

You have started waving, but I can't get you to do it when telling someone good bye or hello.

You love to look at yourself in the mirror! Hmm!

You say "Dada" and "Mama" unspecifically and a sound that mimics, "all done".

Sippy Cup

I am only four months behind in introducing Luke to the sippy cup! He liked it a lot today! He explored it for minute, and then he worked hard to get that water out!

Puffs, Anyone?

We started giving Luke puffs at 9 mos. He loves them! J would sorta gag on them even at 12 mos., and he couldn't motor plan how to get them into his mouth even though he had the pincer grasp down. Everything goes into Luke's mouth! The first time I gave L one, he played with it for a few seconds. I showed him how it goes in your mouth. I handed him one, and he right away imitated it! L has been trying some table food lately -- mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, bread. I think we will try grits next! It is so funny how I didn't try those things with J as early. I was so protective of that boy! Here is L having fun with his puffs!

5:00 at Our House

Around 5:00 seems to be the busiest time for us...at home, at least! It is the time when L wakes up from his nap, J is finished resting, and I need to start dinner. Dave doesn't usually get home until closer to 6. Here is what it looks like on some days--

J asks me almost everyday after he gets home from school to go slide and swing. He loves for L to swing with us!

A Wagon Ride

I can't believe my little L is big enough to take a ride in the wagon!



I took both of the boys for a ride this week, and they loved every minute of it! There is just something adorable about little boys in their little red wagon!

9 month stats

L went for his 9 month well visit this week! I really like his pediatrician, and she seems to love our boy! Dr. R thinks L looks great and his development is just fine. Woohoo! He showed her how he is moving around, saying consonants, and recognizing things (Mommy, Jackson, his name, bottle, pat-a-cake, eat). She said he should basically be tearing & grabbing things, banging toys, and on the move - that's Luke! Another thing...when he was born, he would sorta tilt his head to one side, because of how he was positioned in the womb. The tilt is pretty much gone! It didn't really bother me (maybe it should have!), but Dr. R was tracking it. He may favor it some, but I guess it isn't noticeable. Here are his stats:

Weight: 19 lbs. (45th percentile)
Height: 27 3/4 in. (45th percentile)

Sunday Playtime

There was a time when I dreamed of staying at home with my children, since I was sure those mommies sat around watching Regis & Kelly and rocking babies! Ha! Not quite the case for any mom I know but definitely not for us! I wish we spent more time at home. Poor L didn't get a morning nap Tuesday-Friday of last week! So, days like today are fun especially since both boys are on the floor playing!

And....He's Crawling

Luke took off this morning! Dave was cleaning the kitchen from breakfast, and I went to get Luke's clothes for church. When I was coming back down the stairs, I saw him eyeing the truck Jackson was playing with,and he took off very determined to get it! We were all so happy!




We actually go for L's well visit in the morning. I was going to mention to his doctor that he wasn't crawling; however, I knew he have a little longer before it is a problem, and I need to call BabyNet about him ;) We have been so pleased with his development so far, but I am sure I will continue to follow him CLOSELY! It seems like L's gross motor skills are what stay right in the typical range, but I see him doing other things fairly early. I suppose the truth that as some skills become stronger, others aren't necessarily also progressing as fast is something to remember. J's OT did watch L one afternoon as we discussed J, and she pointed out the things that you look for in a child his age. She said he looked completely fine. Relief! Looking back, I know J's language and fine motor skills had to have been delayed but not enough to alarm me as a first time mommy or his doctor. L's pediatrician is much more concerned about milestones being met, and I am thankful! I know I have an eye and ear for development in a way that I didn't even have as a teacher and an acceptance and HUGE appreciation for intervention! I hear about moms all of the time who don't want to get that necessary evaluation for fear of the results...I was there two years ago. But, I am so happy I got J the help and my only regret is that it wasn't before 19 mos.!

THE Truck :)

The boys are definitely interacting more. J will try hard to make L laugh. Then, they giggle together! Friday morning I was busily running around trying to get ready for MOPS. I heard L giving this great belly laugh! I walked down to see J dancing around for him, laughing with him. Precious! Even more, I saw the very bus that J had a hard time sharing with L the day before sitting right in front of L. J said he gave it to him when I asked. I am proud of that boy! I wish everyone could know his tender heart like we do!
